The vocal music major will study not only private voice instruction and technique, but will also be required to study ensemble singing as well. The Compass vocal music program cohesively bridges independent study, with ensemble choral studies and piano theory to create a well-rounded musician. In addition, the vocal music major will take movement to train: posture, body alignment, projection, support and resonance as well as grace. These collective studies, will define the vocal major’s “finished” concert performance quality. In addition to classroom study, the vocal music majors will visit professional and collegiate music programs for off site classes, career training and internships. Both techniques will broaden the actor’s base of understanding. This academic collaboration, will allow the student to navigate not only split second decisions and reaction inherent to stage work, but in addition the students will learn to interpret classical literature and contemporary American theatre as well. Movement is a required class to refine posture and body alignment. Movement will aid the actor in projection and resonance of sound as well as preparing for stunt and stage combat work. Audition for Youth Summer Training posted on May 5 by Metropolis Port

Metropolis Port is proud to announce its first two sessions of children's drama camp. First session will be held in June. Second session is in July. The Metropolis Port acting camp is very unique, as every camper will engage in advanced actor training, face painting, mask work, movement and voice. Also, there will be a professional production at the end of training open to the press and public! This summer's shows are A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Tempest by William Shakespeare. Students will take theatre history courses about the life of Shakespeare and Elizabethan society. Auditions will be held Sunday May 11th and Sunday May 18th at the 14th Street Playhouse on the 3rd Stage from 12-2PM and 5-7PM. Open call at any slot. We will be casting/teaching ages 8-13. Center for Puppetry Arts is holding auditions for bilingual performers (English/Spanish) for the upcoming production of Don Quixote, adapted by Bobby Box and Manuel Moran of Teatro SEA. Auditions for high school and college students will be held at the Jenny T. Anderson Theatre (Cobb Civic Center) on Sunday, May 11th at 10:30 A.M. The audition will consist of your preselected audition song (bring CD accompaniment), a dance taught that day and cold readings from the script. A picture of each student will be taken at the time of registration. Even if you can't sing or dance but would like to be a part of making the show work behind the scenes, come to auditions and sign up to be on the crew (design, paint and build the sets, learn to run a light or soundboard). The four majors at Compass are Dance, Vocal Music, Theatre and Musical Theatre. The vocal music major will study not only private voice instruction and technique, but will also be required to study ensemble singing as well. The Compass vocal music program cohesively bridges independent study, with ensemble choral studies and piano theory to create a well-rounded musician. In addition, the vocal music major will take movement to train: posture, body alignment, projection, support and resonance as well as grace. These collective studies, will define the vocal major’s “finished” concert performance quality. Movement is a required class to refine posture and body alignment. Movement will aid the actor in projection and resonance of sound as well as preparing for stunt and stage combat work.
